Who is Miss Pinny?

Miss Pinny stirs her pot simmering on the wood fire, the sweet smell of her meal tickling the noses of the schoolchildren walking by her house. They greet her cheerfully and she ushers them in, serving them each a plate of her rich, savory food. Later, more people from her town stop in to talk, laugh, and share a meal.

Miss Pinny is an archetype that represents cultural Jamaican values - taking care of one another and lending your neighbor a hand. She symbolizes the idea that there is power in doing what you love, and highlights the importance of familial gatherings and spending time with those you cherish the most.

“Long Gut”

In Jamaican Patois, “Long Gut” is a colloquial term used playfully to describe a person who loves to eat. They have a voracious appetite and are constantly dreaming of enjoying their next delicious meal. The “Long Gut” are the people Miss Pinny serves – friends and family who can fill their stomachs with lots of food.

MEET ROSSETTA!

Her vision behind

Long Gut Miss Pinny

It started with a question.

“Why can’t Jamaican food be served in a fine dining setting?” Rossetta often asked.

So she set out to accomplish that goal - to see the Jamaican food she grew up with plated beautifully for everyone to enjoy.
